Appterix licenses: allocation, trial version and FAQs
Appterix offers a modular SaaS/MSP/on-premise solution for IT security measures. Proper license management ensures optimal use of the Appterix modules.
How Appterix licenses are assigned
A user needs a valid license to use the respective Appterix modules. Assigning a license grants the user access to the corresponding module.
Once a valid license file has been uploaded, licenses can be assigned to users and/or groups. There are two ways to assign licenses to users:
- Direct assignmentDirect assignment is used to activate licenses for individual users.
- Group-based assignmentGroup-based assignment allows you to assign licenses to user groups, for example, based on roles within the organization. All new members added to the group automatically receive group licenses. If a user is removed from the group, they lose these licenses.
Direct assignment
Here's how to assign a license to a single user.
- In the Appterix Management UI, navigate to User administration > User.
- Find and select the user to whom you want to assign the license.
The dialogue Edit user is displayed. - Activate the required modules.
Once the module (the license) has been activated for the user, this module can be used on the user's end device with the Appterix Agent installed.
Group-based assignment
Here's how to assign a license to a user group.
- In the Appterix Management UI, navigate to User administration > Group Visits.
- Find and select the group to which you want to assign a license.
The dialogue Edit group is displayed. - Activate the required modules.
Once the module (the license) has been activated for the group, all group members will have access to this module on their end devices with the Appterix Agent installed.

License Management: FAQs
This article answers the most frequently asked questions about license management.
Q1: What happens if an administrator tries to assign a license whose usage limit has been reached?
AThe assignment fails, and the user is given the tag No license .
Q2: What happens when no more free licenses are available?
AIf all available licenses are assigned, you can release a license for a user by deactivating the corresponding module.
Released licenses can be assigned to unlicensed users.
Q3: Is a user's access immediately removed when a license is revoked?
AYes. If a directly assigned license is revoked, the user immediately loses access to the module.
An exception exists if the user is a member of a group that has also been assigned a valid license for the same module. In this case, access via group-based assignment remains active.
Q4: What happens if a user has both an individual and a group license for the same module?
AThe user retains access to the module as long as at least one of the licenses (direct or group-based) is active.
F5: What happens when a license expires?
A: After the license expires, users lose access to the Appterix modules until a valid license has been purchased and uploaded.
The standard license, which offers unlimited access for five users, can be restored by deleting the existing license file.
Q6: What happens when a user account is deleted?
A: When a user account is deleted, all associated licenses are automatically released and available for reassignment.
