Appterix Release 4.2

We are pleased to offer you this Appterix Release 4.2 imagine.

In this version, we have placed a strong focus on automating lifecycle processes, expanding our hardware integrations, and introducing targeted user awareness training. Below you will find all the details about the new features, the resulting added value, and specific use cases for your daily IT work.

Awareness Management

Security begins with the end user. With the new module, we shift IT security awareness directly to the end device. Instead of overwhelming employees with annual, abstract training courses, you can now train them directly and situationally at their workplace.

  • The added value: More sustainable implementation of security guidelines through immediate feedback. Audit-proof and with real-time data in the journal.

YubiKey Lifecycle Management

The lifecycle processes of authentication hardware have been extensively automated to minimize administrative overhead.

  • Automated blocking: YubiKeys reported as lost, as well as keys belonging to third parties (not tagged with a company tag), are automatically blocked.
  • Withdrawal of certificates & FIDO2: Certificates and FIDO2 registrations (passkeys) can be revoked or deregistered directly via the Appterix console from Active Directory and Entra ID.
  • Inventory management: The new "In Stock" status helps you with efficient hardware resource planning after you have imported the list of new devices.

Security Key Management

We have massively expanded manufacturer support for hardware authentication to offer you maximum flexibility.

Besides YubiKeys In the first step, we now also support Nitrokeys and Swissbit iShield Keys Centralized within Security Key Management, the management of FIDO2 tokens and smart cards has been standardized across manufacturers. These devices can now be viewed in the journal, inventory of Security Key Management, and authentication insights. They are no longer tied to a single hardware manufacturer and can seamlessly manage various security keys from a central console.

Authentication Insights

Security requires transparency. With the new Authentication Insights, you can keep track of FIDO2 usage and the status of your security keys at all times.

  • Central Dashboard: A new, interactive dashboard visualizes in detail all FIDO2 usage logs from YubiKey, NitroKey and Swissbit iShield.

Zero Trust Storage Access (ZTSA)

The management of removable media and mobile storage devices has been made more flexible and secure.

  • Temporary access (time-limited USB permissions): Administrators can now grant users access rights to USB ports that expire automatically after a defined period of time.
  • Extended Hardware & Journals: The IronKey Locker+ 50 G2 It is now part of the predefined global approval list. In addition, journaling for smartphone storage has been optimized.
  • Use case: An external service provider or an employee needs to copy data to an encrypted USB stick at short notice. Instead of granting permanent permissions, you grant a temporary right for 2 hours, which is then automatically revoked.

Password Manager

We are giving administrators more control over password policies and the use of personal vaults.

  • Central guidelines & administration: Enhanced password generation policies ensure stronger passwords. Additionally, private vaults can now be disabled granularly for each user or group.
  • Transparency in sharing: The original owner of a shared entry is now clearly displayed in the Sharing tab.
  • The added value: Avoiding uncontrolled "password proliferation" and clear responsibilities for shared access data.

Administration, Architecture & Security

Appterix 4.2 has also received a massive upgrade under the hood and in its central server management.

  • Audit security (audit logging): All administrative changes to the server are logged in detail.
  • Tamper protection for the agent: The Appterix agent is even more hardened and can no longer be manually stopped by the end user.
  • Accessibility: Appterix can now be operated via keyboard.
