Setting up the account merging of EntraID and AD user accounts

Erläuterungen

In many hybrid IT environments, it happens that the User Principal Name (UPN) and the primary Email address a user in the local Active Directory (AD) and in Microsoft EntraID (formerly Azure AD) not identical .

To prevent duplicate (separate) accounts from being accidentally created for the same employee in EMPlatform, you can adjust the synchronization settings accordingly. By correctly selecting the user ID (matching attribute), EMPlatform ensures that the accounts from both directory services are seamlessly merged into a single user profile.

Synchronization configuration

To successfully set up account merging, adjust the user ID settings in the respective synchronization configurations:

Adjust Active Directory (AD) synchronization

  1. In the EMPlatform's main navigation, navigate to the settings and integrations. AD synchronization.
  2. Look for the synchronization section in the configuration.
  3. Choose as User ID (Matching attribute) the Email address .

Adjust EntraID synchronization

  1. Next, navigate to the settings for the EntraID synchronization.
  2. Look for the synchronization section here as well.
  3. Choose as User ID either the UPN or also the Email address .

Result: The EMPlatform now uses these defined attributes as a common denominator to match the identities and successfully merge the accounts from AD and EntraID.

Important note regarding manually created accounts

Warning: Impact on existing manual accounts.

The described logic for account merging applies also for user accounts that you previously created manually in the EMPlatform.

If a manually created account the same email address Like the account imported via AD or EntraID synchronization, EMPlatform automatically links these accounts. The manually created account is merged and updated with the data from the directory services during synchronization.
