Controlling removable media: Increased security through allow lists

The challenge

Removable storage media pose a significant security risk in many companies. Without clear controls, unauthorized devices can be easily used, which significantly increases the risk of data loss.

Our solution

The Appterix Zero Trust Storage AccessThe module offers a central and simple way to control access to all removable media via allow lists. Administrators define precisely which devices are permitted, ensuring that only authorized devices are used. This approach combines high security with flexible management, significantly reducing both risks and administrative overhead.

Global and individual approvalisten

A global access list is automatically generated and defines the basic rules for the entire company. Separate lists can also be created for individual users or groups.

The rules of an admissions list are granular and flexibly configurable. They can be based on the following criteria:

ProductionAll devices from a specific manufacturer.

Model: Devices that are identified by their manufacturer ID (VID) and product ID (PID).

Unique device: A specific device identified by VID, PID and a serial number.

This ensures a balanced approach between security and flexibility.

Conclusion

Approval lists ensure strict access control to removable media. Companies can fully control device usage and significantly reduce the risk of data leaks.
